TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology rallied from an early deficit and captured a 2-1 overtime victory over Anderson University late Wednesday night at the Engineer Intramural Field.
Anderson jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by Katie Frazer in the 48th minute, then held the lead through the 54th minute when a thunderstorm halted play. Following an hour delay, Rose-Hulman rallied with two dramatic goals for the victory.
Seven minutes into overtime the same duo struck again. Melissa Rivera passed a ball into the box that was deflected on to the foot of Wells for the game winning score.
Rose-Hulman controlled play for much of the contest, outshooting Anderson 19-7 and 5-0 in overtime. Wells had a match-high seven shots, and Eliska Saiz contributed three shots to the performance.
Rose-Hulman improved to 9-5 overall and 3-1 in HCAC play, while Anderson dropped to 6-4-2 and 1-3 in league matches. The Fightin' Engineers return to action at Defiance College on Saturday.
