CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's soccer team earned a huge road win on Thursday night defeated HCAC front-runner Mount St. Joseph 2-1 in Cincinnati.
The women controlled the pace of play in the first half and took a 1-0 lead on a goal from freshman Jessica Wells in the 29th minute. Junior Madeline Romeo provided the assist. The Fightin' Engineers led at halftime 1-0.
The Lions battled back in the second half and tied the game at 1-1 on a Kara Vennemeier in the 68th minute. However, just 33 seconds later it was again Wells who found the back of the net for the second time in the match to give the Fightin' Engineers a 2-1 lead. Junior Eliska Saiz made the pass to Wells, who scored her team-high eighth goal this season.
The two goals scored tonight were the first goals that the Mount St. Joseph defense has given up in HCAC play this season.
With the win the women improve to 11-5 and 5-1 in the HCAC.
