TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's soccer team has been picked to finish fourth in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference this season, in a preseason poll of league coaches released August 17.
The women's soccer squad finished 11-8 overall and 6-3 in conference play in 2016 to qualify for its third HCAC Tournament in the last four years.
Rose-Hulman returns 19 letter winners from last season's roster, including 10 starters from a team that allowed just 25 goals in 19 matches. Individually, first-team all-league honorees Jessica Wells and Madeline Romeo return, and Wells was named 2016 HCAC Freshman of the Year. Honorable mention all-league selection Samantha Jacobs also returns to the lineup. Last year's starting goalkeeper Carli Weinberg (1.14 GAA) also returns to help bolster the defensive effort.
The 2017 Rose-Hulman home schedule includes nine games and five HCAC contests. The regular season wraps up with four of the last five matches at home, including preseason league co-favorites Franklin (Oct. 25) and Hanover (Oct. 28). Rose-Hulman also hits the road to face defending NCAA Division III national champion Washington University (Mo.) on Sept. 7.
