TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's soccer team dropped a close 3-2 affair in overtime on Saturday afternoon to the visiting Millikin University Big Blue.
Millikin got on the scoreboard first and led 1-0 at halftime, but the Fightin' Engineers would find a way to equalize. Early in the second half, sophomore Maddy Twetten scored off of passes from Meaghan Matus and Lauren London to tie the game at 1-1. In the 65th minute, it was again Twetten who got outran the Millikin defense and scored off of a perfectly placed pass from senior Madeline Romeo.
Millikin didn't quit in the contest as the Big Blue managed to tie the game late in the 84th minute. The game headed into overtime.
In the first overtime period, Lucy Koger scored the golden goal to win the game for Millikin.
Senior goalie Carli Weinberg picked up nine saves in the loss.
The loss dropped the Fighitin' Engineers to 2-5-0 in 2017. Millikin improved to 5-2-0. Rose-Hulman will be back in action on September 20 when the team travels to Webster University. Kickoff from Webster Groves, Missouri is scheduled for 7:30 PM ET.
