WEBSTER GROVES, Mo. -- The Rose-Hulman women's soccer team dropped a heart-breaking 2-1 decision in overtime against Webster University on Wednesday night.
Neither team could gain an advantage in the first half, playing to a scoreless draw through the first 45 minutes of play.
The Gorloks would get on the scoreboard first in the contest, scoring in the 76th minute.
The Fightin' Engineers would mount a late surge. Rose-Hulman took a free kick that was fired into the box by Samantha Jacobs. The pass found Kirby Kern who headed the ball into the back of the net with just 39 seconds left in regulation. It was her second goal of the season.
In overtime, the Gorloks capitalized on a late turnover and Joi Wilson scored the golden goal. It was her sixth goal of the season.
Senior goalie Carli Weinberg picked up nine saves in the loss.
The Fightin' Engineers fell to 2-6 on the season. Webster remained undefeated at 7-0. RHIT will return to action on Sunday September 21 when Westminster (Mo.) visits Intramural Field. Kickoff is set for 1 PM.
