Women's Soccer Moves to 3-1-1 in HCAC with Saturday Win

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology improved to 3-1-1 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a 3-0 women's soccer victory over Defiance College on Saturday at the Engineer Intramural Field.

Jessica Wells led the offensive effort with two goals and one assist.  Kirby Kern added the game winning goal, and the Fightin' Engineers recorded their second shutout of the season by holding Defiance to just five shots.

Romeo opened the scoring midway through the first half, courtesy of assists from Wells and Stef Panzenhagen.  Wells increased the lead to 2-0 at halftime, finishing after a pass from Jillian Caffrey.

In the second half, Rose-Hulman controlled play by outshooting Defiance 8-1.  Wells provided the second half score, on assists from Caffrey and Kern.  Wells also led the offense with five shots.

Goalkeepers Carli WeinbergKatie Demert and Nicole Houston combined for a pair of saves and the shutout.

Rose-Hulman improved to 6-7-1 overall and hosts Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday night.
