Rose-Hulman's Comeback Falls Just Short Against Franklin

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman women's soccer team's comeback fell just short on Wednesday night as the Fightin' Engineers were topped by Franklin College by a final score of 2-1.

Franklin jumped out to an early lead two minutes into the contest after Maddie Fleet netted her league-leading 20th goal.  Franklin struck again just six minutes later in the 8th minute after Fleet slipped behind the Rose-Hulman defense for her second goal of the match.  Hannah McIntosh and Clare Lenart picked up the assist on the second Grizzlie goal.

After the initial surge by Franklin to start the contest the Rose-Hulman defense managed to keep the Grizzlies off of the scoreboard for the remainder of the match.

Rose-Hulman made things interesting late in the game after Jessica Wells scored her team-leading tenth goal of the season in the 72nd minute.  Corie Ewoldt earned the assist on Wells' goal.  Rose-Hulman had a few breakaways late, but were unable to capitalize.

Senior goalie Carli Weinberg finished the match with 11 saves and made several acrobatic saves in the second half to keep Rose-Hulman in the contest.

Rose-Hulman fell to 7-9-1, 4-3-1 HCAC.  Franklin improved to 11-4-0, 7-1-0 HCAC.  RHIT will host Hanover College in the regular season finale on Saturday October 28th.  Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. at Intramural Field.
