TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's tennis team has been picked to finish third in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference this season, in the annual preseason poll of league coaches.
The Fightin' Engineers finished second in the HCAC regular season and conference tournament last season with an overall record of 9-5 and a 6-2 mark in HCAC play. Three singles players and three doubles players return from last year's squad.
First-team all-conference honoree Suzana Mohd and honorable mention all-conference selection Kylie McCollum lead the returning players for this season. Junior Lauren Miller held down multiple singles positions last year, while Sydney Short played a key role for a 9-2 doubles team as a freshman.
Rose-Hulman has enjoyed a tradition of recent success in women's tennis, including regular season conference championships in 2010 and 2011, along with a trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament in 2011.
The Fightin' Engineers host Hanover College in the season opener on Sept. 13.
