TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's tennis team moved into a tie for second place in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference standings with a 9-0 sweep of Franklin College on Sunday.
Rose-Hulman swept all doubles flights dropping no more than three games in any flight. Sophomore Lauren Edwards and freshman Isabella Evans continued their strong play at second doubles improving to 5-0 on the season with a 8-3 victory over Bathanie Harris and Emily Helvie. Shortly after doubles concluded, rain forced the two teams to move the match indoors.
Evans won the first set 6-4 over Bethany Harris at second singles. The Mission Viejo, Calif., native improved to 7-0 in singles competition when Harris retired in the second set.
Third, fourth, and fifth singles were all won by Rose-Hulman in third set super tiebreakers.
Rose-Hulman, which as won its last six matches, improves to 6-1 on the season including a 4-1 mark in HCAC play. In addition, the Fightin' Engineers have won their last four matches in 9-0 fashion. The Engineers take the court again Friday, Oct. 10, at Adnerson. The match is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
