ANDERSON, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's tennis team moved into sole possession of second place in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference standings with a 7-2 victory at Anderson University on Friday afternoon.
The Fightin' Engineers dropped two of the three doubles matches, but roared back with six straight singles win to improve to 7-1 on the season and 5-1 in conference play.
Rose-Hulman took a one-game advantage in the battle for second place in the HCAC standings with the victory. The Fightin' Engineers need a win over either Transylvania or Manchester this weekend to secure a first-round bye in the league tournament that takes place Oct. 18-19 at West Indy Racquet Club.
Sophomore Suzana Mohd, freshman Isabella Evans and senior Kylie McCollum swept the top three singles positions to help secure the victory. Sophomore Lauren Edwards, junior Lauren Miller and sophomore Sydney Short completed the six-match singles sweep in the win.
In doubles play, the No. 3 tandem of Miller and Short added a victory.
Rose-Hulman returns to action on Saturday afternoon at Transylvania University. The regular season concludes with a home match against Manchester University on Sunday.
