TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's tennis team concluded Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) regular season play with an 8-1 victory over Manchester Sunday, Oct. 12.
The Fightin' Engineers swept all three doubles flights surrendering four games or less in each flight. Rose-Hulman's second doubles team of sophomore Lauren Edwards and freshman Isabella Evans improved to 8-1 in doubles on the season with an 8-1 victory. At third doubles, junior Lauren Miller and freshman Sydney Short have just a single loss in doubles after an 8-4 victory at third doubles.
In singles, senior Suzana Mohd, Evans, and Edwards won in straight sets at first, second, and fourth singles respectively. Evans, who has yet to lose a collegiate singles match, improves to 10-0 on the season. Senior Kylie McCollum grinded out a three-set victory 6-2, 6-7(2), 10-5 at third singles.
Fifth and sixth singles were determined via a single pro set. The Engineers won 8-1 at fifth singles while Manchester picked up its lone match point with an 8-1 win at sixth singles.
Rose-Hulman, which stands at 9-1 on the season including an 8-1 mark in HCAC play, clinches the second seed for the upcoming HCAC Women's Tennis Tournament. Rose-Hulman will face the winner of Franklin and Manchester in the semifinals, which are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Oct. 18 at the West Indy Racquet Club. Regular season champion Hanover will meet the winner of Anderson and Transylvania.
