TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's tennis team will face Franklin College in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Semifinal match today at 2 p.m. in a battle of the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds in the conference tournament.
The Fightin' Engineers clinched the second seed for the tournament finishing the HCAC regular season with an 7-1 record. Rose-Hulman's only loss came at the hands of conference champion Hanover on Sept. 13, the first match of the season for both teams.
Franklin advanced to the semifinal round after defeating Manchester 5-0 on Saturday morning at West Indy Racquet Club.
The winner of Saturday's match between Rose-Hulman and Franklin will face the other semifinal winner on Sunday at 10 a.m. Top-seeded Hanover will face the winner of Anderson vs. Transylvania in that match.
The Engineers' top two singles players have yet to lose a singles match this season. Senior Suzana Mohd is 8-0 at first singles while freshman Isabella Evans is 10-0 playing primarily second singles. Senior Kylie McCollum is 7-3 playing primarily third singles while sophomore Lauren Edwards has an 8-2 record playing primarily fourth singles. Junior Lauren Miller and freshman Sydney Short each have a single loss at fifth and sixth singles respectively.
In doubles, Mohd and McCollum paired up for a 5-3 mark at first doubles while Edwards and Evans tallied a 7-1 record at second doubles. Miller and Short finished 8-1 at third doubles.
The winner of the HCAC Tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament this spring.
