ELSAH, Ill. - The Rose-Hulman Institute Technology women's tennis team improved to 11-3 on the season with 6-3 victory over Principia on Saturday, March 21.
Rose-Hulman won the second doubles flight 8-4 as junior Lauren Miller and sophomore Sydney Short defeated Nathalie DeLoach and Gracie Buchanan. Unfortunately, the Fightin' Engineers dropped both the first and the third doubles flights.
Rose-Hulman responded by winning four of six singles flights to take the match. Freshman Isabella Evans dispatched Claire Horton 6-0, 6-0 at first singles while Miller dropped only one game in her 6-1, 6-0 victory over Gracie Buchanan at third singles. Sophomore Lauren Edwards and Short both needed three sets for victories at second and fourth singles respectively. Edwards defeated Lena Carlson 6-3, 5-7, 7-5 and Short won 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 over DeLoach.
Rose-Hulman finished their traditional season in the fall with a 10-2 mark including a 7-1 record in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play. Rose-Hulman advanced to the HCAC Tournament final, falling to Hanover in the title match.
Senior Suzana Mohd was named the conference's Most Valuable Player as well as earning a spot on the All-HCAC First Team. Joining Mohd on the All-HCAC First Team was senior Kylie McCollum and freshman Isabella Evans. In addition to her spot on the All-HCAC First Team, Evans was named the HCAC Freshman of the Year.
