TERRE HAUTE, IND -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's tennis team has been picked to finish second in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference this season, in a preseason poll of league coaches released August 23.
The Fightin' Engineers are coming off of a fourth place finish a year ago in the HCAC, posting an 8-9 overall record in 2015-2016, while going 5-3 in the HCAC.
Rose-Hulman returns veteran players Bella Evans and Lauren Edwards. Over their Rose-Hulman careers, the duo has compiled a combined overall record of 41-18. Head coach Dan Hopkins is also excited about the talent level in the incoming freshmen class.
Last year's HCAC champion Hanover was selected as the preseason favorite, earning seven first place votes. Rose-Hulman was picked to finish second, receiving two first place votes. Franklin and Anderson were picked to finish third and fourth respectively, followed by Manchester and Transylvania in fifth and sixth. The HCAC preseason poll rounds out with Defiance in seventh, followed by Mount St. Joseph and Earlham.
The Fightin' Engineers open the 2016-2017 season against Oakland City on Saturday, September 3 at Noon.
