Rose-Hulman Wins Two During Homecoming

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology earned a pair of women's tennis wins as part of Homecoming on Saturday at the Joy Hulbert Tennis Center.

Rose-Hulman improved to 4-1 in HCAC play with a 9-0 win over Defiance College.  Anna Thompson, Bella Evans, Naomi Bhagat, Lauren Edwards, Sydney Short and Becca Stanley each earned straight set victories in singles play to highlight the shutout.

In doubles action, Thompson and Bhagat teamed for a win at No. 1 doubles.  Evans and Linde Schaffer won at the No. 2 position, with Paige Bateman and Betsy Richardson winning at the No. 3 spot.

Following their sweep of Defiance, the RHIT women's tennis team defeated Indiana University-East by a final score of 5-3.  Thompson, Evans and Bhagat won at #1, #2 and #3 singles respectively.  Short won at #6 singles 6-1, 6-2.  Thompson and Bhagat also won at #1 doubles, 8-5.  

With the wins, the women improve to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in the HCAC.  Their next match will be tomorrow against HCAC foe Manchester.  Match time is set for Noon at the Joy Hulbert Tennis Center.
