BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology earned a pair of three-set sweep victories to open the Illinois Wesleyan University Invitational on Friday night.
Rose-Hulman defeated William Woods 25-17, 25-17, 25-18 to open the four-match weekend. The Fightin' Engineers then swept Simpson College 25-20, 25-17, 25-16 to move to 2-0 in the tournament.
Sophomore Alison Rogozinski had a team-high 16 assists, and freshman Katie Orbeta contributed 13 assists to the victory. Sophomore Gabi Razma led the team with 14 digs, and freshman Adekite Oladipupo reached double figures with 11 digs. Senior Emily McLendon recorded four block assists, with Mackenzie Gossard joining Styczynski with three blocks.
The Fightin' Engineers played a total of 14 players in the win over Simpson. MacInnis recorded eight kills, with Gossard and Julia Hammond tallying seven kills each. Orbeta led the team with 18 assists, and Rogozinski had 15.
Razma paced the defensive effort with 17 digs and was joined in double figures by Poppel with 10. Gossard led the blocking effort with one solo and four assists.
Rose-Hulman will complete the weekend with matches against Benedictine (10 a.m. CT) and Coe (12 p.m. CT) on Saturday.
The Fightin' Engineers stand 2-4 overall and host their home opener on Wednesday night against St. Mary-of-the-Woods at Hulbert Arena.
