Volleyball Advances to HCAC Semifinal Round

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology advanced to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament Semifinal Round with a 21-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-20 victory over Transylvania University in opening round action on Wednesday night at Hulbert Arena.

Third-seeded Rose-Hulman will face second-seeded Bluffton University in the semifinal round of the league tournament on Saturday at 5 p.m. in a match played at top-seeded Hanover College. 

Sophomore Bailey MacInnis led the Rose-Hulman offense with 16 kills and had a double-double with 12 digs.  Marissa Gollnick, Julia Hammond and Adekite Oladipupo had seven kills each.

Freshman Katie Orbeta had a team-high 27 assists, and sophomore Marissa Gollnick contributed 15.  

Junior Gabi Razma led four players in double figures in digs with 29.  MacInnis had 12, Hammond recorded 10 and Oladipupo tallied 10 digs as well.

Sophomore Mia Styczynski recorded three solo blocks and three block assists to pace the front row defense.  Senior Emily McLendon pitched in with two solo blocks and four block assists.

Rose-Hulman improved to 15-16 on the season.  The winner of Saturday's HCAC Tournament Semifinal will compete for the league title on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Hanover.  The tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
