Game Recap: Men's Swimming and Diving |

Swimming & Diving Teams Top Millikin in Opener

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology captured 24 first-place finishes and set one school record to earn two swimming and diving victories over Millikin University on Friday at the Sports and Recreation Center.

The men's squad captured a 121-67 victory over Millikin, while the women won by a 134-78 margin.

Freshman Ellie Hong (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) led the performance with a school record time in the 100-backstroke.  Hong recorded the first sub-one minute time in program history with a mark of 58.93 seconds to capture top honors.  She also won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:05.05.

Sophomore Sam Gould (Greencastle/South Putnam) narrowly missed a school record in the three-meter diving competition to lead the men's victories.  Gould recorded 296.85 points to win the three-meter competition after scoring 259.35 points to win the one-meter event.

On the women's side, junior Laura Danhauer (Barrington, Ill.) won two individual distance events and helped one relay team capture top honors.  Danhauer won the 500-freestyle in 5:56.64, captured the 1,000-free in 12:16.54 and teamed up with junior Ashley Schumacher (St. Louis, Mo./Lutheran South), sophomore Savannah Jay (Logansport/Lewis Cass) and freshman Lauren McLennan (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) to win the 400-freestyle relay (4:07.96).

Sophomore Regen Foote (Jasper) helped Rose-Hulman secure maximum diving points by sweeping the one-meter and three-meter women's diving events.  Foote scored 185.70 points in one-meter diving and tallied 202.05 in three-meter.

Freshman Savannah Rice (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota West) was also a double winner on the women's side.  Rice won the 100-breaststroke in 1:14.11 and captured the 200-individual medley with a time of 2:20.81.

Sophomore Stephanie Wolfersberger (Whiteland, Ind.) added a victory in the 50-freestyle with a time of 26.72 seconds.  The 200-medley relay team of Hong, Rice, junior Celeste Kline (Terre Haute/North) and Wolfersberger also earned a victory with a time of 1:57.61.

The men's squad swept first-place honors in all 13 events on the evening.  Gould was the lone double winner and nine other individual claimed one event each.  Winners included freshman Pierce Bartine (Katy, Texas/Seven Lakes) in the 200-individual medley (2:01.80); sophomore Tai Enrico (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East) in the 100-backstroke (56.57); senior Theo Famprikis (Thessaloniki, Greece/Anatolia College) in the 50-freestyle (22.87); and sophomore Paul Hintz (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington) in the 200-freestyle (1:50.51).

Other winners included sophomore Matthew King (Libertyville, Ill.) in the 1,000-freestyle (10:17.93), sophomore Orion Martin (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) in the 100-freestyle (48.12); freshman Tim McDaniel (Kettering, Ohio/Beavercreek) in the 500-freestyle (5:06.69), senior Logan Ryan (Kent, Wash./Kentwood Senior) in the 100-butterfly (56.66); and junior Marshall Yeoman (Elkhart, Ind./Memorial) in the 100-breaststroke (1:04.21).

Rose-Hulman also swept the two men's relay events.  The team of Bartine, Hintz, senior Andrew Podgorski (Goshen, Ind.) and freshman Matt Schulstad (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) won the 200-medley in a time of 1:39.56.  The 400-freestyle team included sophomore Mitchell Lippy (Crown Point, Ind.), McDaniel, Ryan and Schulstad and won in 3:31.66.

The Fightin' Engineers will compete on Saturday at the Indiana Intercollegiate Meet at Purdue University.
