Game Recap: Men's Swimming and Diving |

Swimming & Diving Earns 16 Firsts Against Franklin

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman celebrated Senior Day for its swimming and diving program with 16 event victories against Franklin College on Saturday at the Sports and Recreation Center Natatorium.

The Fightin' Engineer men topped Franklin 196-102 in dual scoring, while the Franklin women captured a 202-66 victory. 

Two school records fell on the afternoon for Rose-Hulman.  Sophomore Orion Martin (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) won the 200-freestyle in a time of 1:43.70, while freshman Ellie Hong (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) established a new school record in the 100-freestyle (54.18).  Martin also won the 100-butterfly (50.74 seconds), while Hong earned top honors in the 100-backstroke (59.23).

Sophomore Sam Gould (Greencastle/South Putnam) and sophomore Regen Foote (Jasper) combined for a sweep of the four diving events.  Gould scored 222.00 points in men's one-meter diving and 228.50 in three-meter, while Foote had 199.10 points in women's one-meter and 210,90 points in three-meter.

Senior Andrew Podgorski (Goshen, Ind.) added two individual wins in his final home meet at the Sports and Recreation Center.  Podgorski recorded winning times of 47.87 seconds in the 100-freestyle and 1:01.87 in the 100-breaststroke.

Other men's individual winners included sophomore Paul Hintz (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington) in the 50-freestyle (22.51); sophomore Matthew King (Libertyville, Ill.) in the 1650-freestyle (17:00.81); senior Logan Ryan (Kent, Wash./Kentwood Senior) in the 200-breaststroke (2:18.67); and freshman Matt Schulstad (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) in the 200-butterfly (1:58.89).

The Fightin' Engineers also swept both men's relay events.  The team of freshman Nate Weber (Kalamazoo, Mich./Portage Central), Podgorski, Martin and Hintz won the 200-medley in 1:38.16.  Martin, Hintz, Schulstad and Podgorski combined to win the 400-freestyle relay in 3:14.13.

The swimming and diving team also honored its five seniors prior to the meet.  This year's seniors include Podgorski, Ryan, Theo Famprikis, Ryan Sagul and Stephen Wuest.

Rose-Hulman returns to action at the Transylvania University Invitational on Dec. 7-8 at the University of Kentucky in Lexington.
