Women's Tennis Advances to HCAC Tourney Final

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology advanced to the championship match of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Tournament with a 5-2 win over Franklin College in a four-hour battle on Saturday.

The Fightin' Engineers relied on doubles wins by the No. 2 team of freshman Isabella Evans and sophomore Lauren Edwards, and the No. 3 squad of junior Lauren Miller and sophomore Sydney Short to capture a 2-1 lead after doubles play.

Rose-Hulman captured three singles wins to finish the match.  Evans won 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 2 position, senior Kylie McCollum earned a three-set win by a 1-6, 7-5, 6-2 margin at No. 3 singles, and Short won 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 6 spot.

Rose-Hulman improved to 10-1 on the season and advances to the HCAC Tournament title match for the second consecutive year and the third time in the last four years.

The Fightin' Engineers will rematch with Hanover College in the title round on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the West Indy Racquet Club.  Hanover handed Rose-Hulman its only defeat of the 2014 season by a 6-3 margin in the season opener and also won the HCAC Tournament crown over the Engineers in 2013.
