TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's tennis team notched its first win of the 2015 season with a 9-0 sweep of Webster University at the Wabash Valley Tennis Center on Saturday, Feb. 14.
The Fightin' Engineers swept the doubles flights dropping just a single game at third doubles. The first doubles team of sophomore Brandon Benedict and sophomore Georges Adam as well as the second doubles team of junior Matt Conrad and freshman Cam Metzger won via an 8-0 sweep. The third doubles team of junior Erin Miller and sophomore Joe Kendall defeated Ivan Prgomet and Carlos Gonzalez 8-1 at third doubles.
In singles, Brandon Benedict dropped Travis Blair 6-1, 6-2 at first singles. Adam, Metzger, and Conrad won second, third, and fourth singles respectively each by scores of 6-0, 6-0. The closest flight of the day was fifth singles. Freshman Tyler Haas pulled out a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Trent Purnell. Freshman Derek Benedict completed the sweep of the singles flights winning his sixth singles match 6-1, 6-0.
Rose-Hulman improves to 1-1 on the season and returns to action Saturday, Feb. 21, for a 1 p.m. match at Principia.
