TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology combined for eight match victories at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region Championships, hosted by Washington University in St. Louis on Sept. 25-27.
The doubles team of Brandon Benedict and Georges Adam recorded two wins in doubles play on Saturday to advance to the semifinal round of the Main Draw consolation bracket to lead the overall performance.
The doubles teams of Cam Metzger and Matt Conrad (main draw) and Andre Adam and Andrew Schiffman (St. Louis bracket) also captured one victory each during the weekend of play.
In singles play, three Fightin' Engineers earned wins in their first round matches. Georges Adam won 6-3, 6-4 over a player from Adrian in the main draw, prior to falling in round two. In the St. Louis Division, Andre Adam claimed a 6-4, 6-2 win over Oberlin, before falling to the No. 6 seed from Baldwin Wallace. Goldacker earned a first-round win over Capital in three sets before falling in round two in the St. Louis Division.
In Saturday singles play, Benedict captured an additional win in the opening round of the consolation bracket in the Main Draw.
Rose-Hulman returned to the court for the first time since appearing in the 2015 NCAA Division III Tournament in St. Louis. The Fightin' Engineers won their first outright conference regular season championship, their first conference tournament title, and made their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance last season.
The 2016 season will begin in February.
