Men's Swimming & Diving Dominates at Transylvania

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Rose-Hulman men's and women's swimming & diving teams combined for 15 event victories and the men's team won in a dominant performance at the Transylvania Invitational at the University of Kentucky Natatorium on Saturday and Sunday.

The Rose-Hulman men won 12 total events and tallied 1198.5 points, outdistancing Franklin (712) and Rhodes (328) as the top three finishers in the seven-team event.  On the women's side, Rhodes won with 640 points, followed by Franklin (606), Emory & Henry (443) and Rose-Hulman (437) among eight teams in the meet.

Rose-Hulman won all five relay events and tallied seven individual wins on the men's side.  Senior Pierce Bartine led the way by winning three events, the 50-freestyle (20.90), 100-freestyle (45.59) and 100-butterfly (49.29).  Avery Krovetz was also a multiple-event winner, capturing the 500-freestyle (4:45.80) and the 1650-freestyle (16:44.85).

Other individual winners for the Rose-Hulman men included Patrick King in the 200-butterfly (1:53.47) and Alexander Yaung in the 200-breaststroke (2:10.72).

The sweep of five relay events included three freestyle and two medley relay victories.  The 200-freestyle relay team of Bartine, Cam Gill, Nate Weber and Tyler Sariscsany won in 1:23.71.  The 200-medley relay team of Gill, Bartine, Sariscsany and Nick Samra earned top honors in 1:33.82.

The 400-freestyle relay team of Bartine, Sariscsany, Gill and Weber won in 3:05.71, while the 400-medley relay team of Austin Bockman, Zachary Forster, King and Salisbury recorded a first-place time of 3:34.65.  The 800-freestyle relay team of Gill, Nicholas Jeronis, Daniel Skiroock, and King helped complete the sweep with a winning time of 7:04.57.  

On the women's side, senior Ellie Hong led the Fightin' Engineers with two event wins.  The four-time NCAA Division III All-American swept the 100-backstroke (58.32) and 200-backstroke (2:02.11) events.  Freshman Michaela Kivett added first-place honors in 1-meter diving with 356.35 points.

Rose-Hulman returns to intercollegiate competition with its senior day home meet against Anderson University on Saturday Jan. 7.
