COMPLETE RESULTS
ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's track and field team earned first-place honors, while the women's squad relied on two school records to finish fourth at the Washington University Invitational on Friday night.
The deep and balanced team effort included three men's event wins, two women's school records and 10 event runner-up performances.
Men's event winners included sophomore Josh Himes, freshman Trey Sykes and the men's 4-x-100 meter relay team of Adam Wilson, David Borden, Isaiah Smith and Josh Hennig. Himes recorded a discus throw of 154' 11", Sykes leaped 45' 11 3/4" in the triple jump and the 4-x-100 meter team ran a time of 43.29 seconds.
On the women's side, sophomore Gabi Razma won the long jump with a leap of 16' 10 1/2" to bolster the team score.
The men's squad had seven runner-up performances to help the team score 218.5 points and outdistance Washington University, Greenville, Wisconsin-Stout and Lindenwood for top honors. Track event runner-ups included Dimitris Valioulis in the 110-hurdles (15.73); Trevin Grissom in the 400-hurdles (56.08); Matt Hill in the 3,000 steeplechase (9:42.41); Kenton Hipsher in the 200-meter dash (22.89); and Hennig in the 400-meter dash (50.12). Field event runner-ups included Brendan Smyth in the triple jump (43' 1") and Charles Spaeth in the shot put (52' 0").
Razma and freshman Debie Gedeon relied on two school record performances to compile two runner-up finishes. Razma set a school record in the triple jump (36' 7 1/2") after winning the long jump (16' 10 1/2"). Gedeon snapped her own school record in the 110-hurdles by exactly one-half second with a mark of 14.97 seconds.
The performances by Himes (3rd), Sykes (5th) and Spaeth (6th) rank among the top performances in all of NCAA Division III so far in the 2016 season, through last weekend's action.
The men's team added four running event and three field event third-place finishes. Running event third-place finishers included Wilson in the 100 meters (11.38); Hennig in the 200 (22.90); Brendon Mattiuz in the 800 (1:59.30); and Smyth in the 400-hurdles (56.78). Field event third place finishers included Himes in the shot put (48' 8 3/4"), Andrew Okruch in the discus throw (146' 5"); and Hipsher in the high jump (6' 4 3/4").
The women's performance included two third-place finishes. Ava Paruleski came home third in the high jump (4' 11") and the 4-x-100 meter relay team of Lauren London, Gedeon, Lindsey Fagerberg and Razma were third in 50.78 seconds.
Rose-Hulman returns to action at the Hanover Invitational on Saturday April 2.
