Rose-Hulman Shuts Out Earlham in HCAC Tournament Opener

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology dropped just one game in a convincing 5-0 victory over Earlham College in the opening round of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Tournament on Friday night at West Indy Racquet Club.

The Fightin' Engineers improved to 10-2 on the season and advance to Saturday's HCAC Tournament semifinal match at 1 p.m. against Franklin College.

Rose-Hulman won its seventh consecutive match with the victory over Earlham.  The doubles teams of Anna Thompson and Naomi Bhagat at No. 1, Bella Evans and Fanny-Jane Banda at No. 2, and Linde Schaffer and Kyla Jarvis at No. 3 started the match with 8-0 wins in under 30 minutes each.

In singles play, Thompson picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1, and Bhagat won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3.

Third-seeded Rose-Hulman advances to face second-seeded Franklin in the semifinal round on Saturday at 1 p.m.  The Grizzlies are 11-2 overall, and the Fightin' Engineers look to avenge a 6-3 regular season loss earlier this season.  The winner will advance to the HCAC championship match on Sunday at 10 a.m.
