Men's & Women's Teams Sweep RHIT Twilight Meet

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Fightin' Engineer men's and women's track and field teams swept the men's and women's team championships at the Rose-Hulman Twilight Meet on Friday night at the William Welch Track and Field Complex.

The women's team scored 157 points to outdistance Greenville with 111.5 and Hanover with 109.  The men's squad relied on four top five finishes in the discus throw to close within one point, then won the 4-x-400 meter relay to top Greenville 199-196.5 in the team scoring.

The Rose-Hulman men's and women's squads combined to win 14 events, led by two athletes with two wins each.  Junior Gabi Razma set a new school record to win the women's triple jump (37' 5 1/4") and also captured the long jump title (17' 4 3/4").  Junior Josh Himes won two men's throwing events by capturing the shot put (49' 8 1/4") and discus (154' 3").

Other women's individual winners included Clare Bruns in the 400-meter hurdles (1:09.33); Lucinda Combs in the javelin (107' 9"); Debie Gedeon in the 100-meter hurdles (15.34); and Jaclyn Setina in the high jump (5' 5").  The women's 4-x-400 meter relay of Razma, Victoria Heckenlively, Bruns and Christine Harper won the final event with a mark of 4:09.63.

On the men's side, four individuals also won one event each for Rose-Hulman.  Josh Blome captured the pole vault (14' 4"); Josh Hennig won the 400-meter dash (48.81); Nathan Schrader claimed the javelin (171' 10"); and Trey Sykes won the triple jump (45' 10 1/2").  The 4-x-400 meter relay team that secured the meet title Brendan Smyth, Isaiah Smith, John Evans and Hennig in a time of 3:19.22.

Matt Hill led the runner-up finishers by setting a new school record in the men's 3,000-meter run, completing the event in 8:42.80.  Camille Blaisdell added the second fastest women's 3,000-meter run in school history at 10:40.39 to also place second.

Andrew Okruch provided a pair of runner-up finishes in throwing events, coming home second in the shot put (46' 6 1/4") and discus (150' 2").  Other runner-up finishers included Lindsey Fagerberg in the women's triple jump (34' 7"); Eric Fiacable in the hammer (157' 10"); Nick Palmer in the pole vault (13' 10"); and Smyth in the 400-hurdles (56.07).

Rose-Hulman returns to action in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships at Anderson University on April 28-29.
