TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Fightin' Engineer tennis team split a pair of matches on Saturday April 8 at the Joy Hulbert Tennis Center. Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology improved to 3-0 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matches with a convincing win over Anderson University in the first match of the day. The Fightin' Engineers were defeated in the second match of the day by the 36th-ranked Coe Kohawks.
In the opener, Rose-Hulman won each match in straight sets to defeat Anderson University 9-0. The Fightin' Engineers also won their third straight match by a 9-0 score in conference play.
Singles winners for the Fightin' Engineers included Georges Adam at No. 1; Brandon Benedict at No. 2; Cam Metzger at No. 3; Andre Adam at No. 4; Andrew Schiffman at No. 5; and Joe Kendall at No. 6. In doubles play, winners included Georges Adam and Benedict at No. 1; Andre Adam and Metzger at No. 2; and Austin Perry with Brendan Goldacker at No. 3.
The match against Coe College was tight all afternoon but the Kohawks improved to 19-4 on the season with a 6-3 win over Rose. Georges Adam and Brandon Benedict won at No. 1 doubles 8-5. Benedict also won at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-1. The other singles winner against Coe was Andrew Schiffman at No. 6 singles; winning 6-4, 1-6, 6-2.
The split on the day brings RHIT's record to 11-7, 3-0 HCAC. Rose-Hulman will be back in action tomorrow at HCAC foe Hanover at Noon.
