TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology placed four track and field standouts on the CoSIDA NCAA Division III academic all-district seven men's and women's track and field teams for their efforts in competition and in the classroom this season.

Seniors Josh Blome, Christine Harper and Brendan Smyth were joined by junior Gabi Razma as first-team academic all-district selections.  The four were chosen for one of 10 men's and 10 women's positions on the teams that include nomination from over 30 institutions in multiple sports from Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. They each advance to their respective CoSIDA Academic All-America national ballots, with the Academic All-America Team scheduled for release on June 21.

Blome recorded eight top-five finishes in the pole vault at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference indoor and outdoor championships during his career, highlighted by the indoor championship with a leap of 15' 1" in 2016.  In the classroom, the software engineering major carries a 3.93 grade point average.

Smyth earned third-team Academic All-American honors in 2016 and seeks a return to the squad this spring.  He completed a career that featured three HCAC triple jump championships; and four 4-x-400 meter relay titles.  He also claimed USTFCCCA All-Region honors indoors in 2016 and 2017.  In the classroom, the biomedical engineering major carries a 3.89 grade point average.  Both Blome and Smyth were a part of eight HCAC championship teams in their careers, four indoor and four outdoor.

Harper completed her career with three individual HCAC championships in the 4-x-200 and 4-x-400 meter relays.  She tallied 19 total point scoring performances and 15 top-five conference finishes.  She was part of the 2017 indoor 4-x-200 meter championship team and the runner-up 4-x-400 squads both indoors and outdoors.  In the classroom, the biomedical engineering major carries a 4.00 grade point average.

Razma has earned nine HCAC individual or relay championships in her career and placed in 25 conference events.  She is a four-time HCAC triple jump champion, including a sweep of the 2017 indoor and outdoor conference titles.  She was also a member of the 2017 conference championship 4-x-200 meter relay team and is a three-time all-region triple jumper.  Her career awards include winning the 2015 HCAC Outdoor Track and Field Freshman of the Year and 2014 HCAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Year awards.  She carries a 3.96 grade point average as a biomedical engineering major.
