TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman picked up a key Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference win on Sunday afternoon after the Fightin' Engineers defeated the Transylvania Pioneers by a final score of 7-2.
Rose-Hulman collected two victories in doubles play to start the match. The duo of Anna Thompson and Naomi Bhagat teamed up for an 8-2 win at the No. 1 doubles slot. Senior Bella Evans and freshman Fanny-Jane Banda earned an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles.
Up 2-1 after doubles play, Rose-Hulman earned victories at the No. 1 through No. 5 spots in route to their fourth win of the Fall. Sophomore Anna Thompson won at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-1. Bella Evans won at No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-0.
Sophomore Naomi Bhagat completed a successful week with a win at the No. 3 singles position 6-1, 6-1. Bhagat went 5-1 over the course of the week against top HCAC competition in Franklin, Hanover and Transylvania.
Fanny-Jane Banda secured a win at No. 4 singles 6-4, 7-5. Linde Schaffer picked up a 3-6, 6-1, 5-0 win at No. 5 singles.
The moved Rose's overall record to 4-2. The Fightin' Engineers improved to 2-2 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play. RHIT will return to action on Sunday October 1 at 2 pm when the team hosts Millikin University.
