CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology opened the 2018-19 swimming and diving season with four event wins and 13 top-three finishes at the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships on Saturday at Wabash College.
DePauw won the women's scoring, followed by Franklin. Rose-Hulman edged out HCAC foes Anderson, Hanover and Manchester to finish third on the women's side. In men's action, DePauw scored 811.5, Wabash had 672.5, followed by Rose-Hulman (558.5), Franklin (464.5), Hanover, Anderson and Manchester.
Ethan Park led the Rose-Hulman performance with two event wins. Park won both the 200-individual medley (2:00.26) and 200-breaststroke (2:10.07).
Other winners included Sean Gish in the men's 100-freestyle (48.70) and Michelle Reese in women's one-meter diving (212.5).
Rose-Hulman had runner-up finishes in both men's relay events to lead the second-place efforts. Park, Nick Samra, Michael Rosier and Gish were second in the 200-medley (1:38.90), while Dutch Kipp, Jared Brown, Greg Wenning and Gish came home as runner-up in the 400-freestyle relay (3:14.08).
Other second-place finishers included Michaela Kivett in women's one-meter diving (158.25); Park in the 100-breaststroke (1:00.43); and Kipp in the 50-freestyle relay (22.24).
The Fightin' Engineers also combined for four third-place finishes on the day. Divers Peter Venema (men's one-meter 203.76 points) and Samantha Stevens (women's three-meter 205.00 points) came home third, along with Brown in the 50-freestyle (22.28) and Kipp in the 100-freestyle (48.75).
The Rose-Hulman women face Hanover on Friday night, while the men and women will travel to Louisville for matchups against Bellarmine and the Indiana State women next Saturday.
