Swimming & Diving Teams Compete against D-I, D-II Foes on Saturday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology won five events in a men's matchup against NCAA Division II, and the Fightin' Engineers had one top-three finish on the women's side against Indiana State and Bellarmine in swimming and diving action on Saturday afternoon.

Bellarmine topped the Rose-Hulman squad 161-132 on the men's side.  In women's action, Indiana State and Bellarmine both picked up team wins, and Indiana State topped Bellarmine.

Individually, Rose-Hulman combined for five event wins, 11 runner-up finishes and eight third-place efforts.

Jared Brown led the individuals with wins in the 50-freestyle (22.18) and the 100-freestyle (48.34).  Peter Venema added a sweep of one-meter diving (224.93) and three-meter diving (198.68) as the diving events were held Thursday night at the Vigo County Aquatic Center.

The 400-freestyle relay team of Dutch Kipp, Brown, Brendan King and Sean Gish capped the meet with a win in 3:13.11.  The 200-medley relay team of William JordanNick SamraBryce Snaguski and Kipp led the second-place finishers with a time of 1:38.57.

Other runner-up finishers included Snaguski in the 100-butterfly (53.24), 200-butterfly (2:00.82) and 200-individual medley (2:04.21); Samra in the 100-breaststroke (1:00.16) and the 200-breaststroke (2:15.13); Gish in the 50-freestyle (22.62); King in the 500-freestyle (4:54.31); Joshua Schnipke in three-meter diving (193.72); Shamus Sparling in the 1,000-freestyle (10:32.24); and Ben Strate in one-meter diving (213.82).

Samantha Stevens had the women's top-three finish with a score of 225.75 points in one-meter diving.  On the men's side, Kipp had third-place efforts in the 200-backstroke (159.89) and 200-butterfly (2:02.89).  Other third-place finishers included Gish in the 100-freestyle (49.05); King in the 200-freestyle (1:49.20); Schnipke in one-meter diving (197.55); Sparling in the 500-freestyle (5:04.44); and Strate in three-meter diving (190.87).

Rose-Hulman returns to men's action next Saturday at home against Wabash at 1 pm.  The men and women host Anderson on Friday Sept. 9.
