Rose-Hulman Wins HCAC Clash with Earlham 5-4

RICHMOND, Ind. - Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology won a hard-fought men's tennis match on Saturday against Earlham College.  The Fightin' Engineers won the clash of the top two teams in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference by a final tally of 5-4 to claim the conference regular season title.

Rose-Hulman led 2-1 following doubles action.  The duo of Ian Landwehr and Austin Perry earned a 9-7 win at No. 2 doubles.  Andrew Schiffman and Brendan Goldacker combined for an 8-4 victory at No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, Landwehr topped Vitalii Stadnyk in the No. 1 slot 6-3, 6-0.  Andrew Schiffman won 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles to snap the 4-4 tie and secure the regular season title.  Austin Perry rounded out the Rose-Hulman victory with a 7-5, 6-2 win at the No. 5 position.  

Rose-Hulman improved to 15-10, 7-0 HCAC on the season.  The Fightin' Engineers have now won 37 straight matches against Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponents.  Rose also improved to 15-4 against NCAA Division III competition this spring and will be the No. 1 seed in next week's tounament.  Earlham dropped to 19-4, 6-1 HCAC this season.  Next up for both Rose and Earlham will be the HCAC Conference Tournament which is set to begin next weekend in Indianapolis.
