TERRE HAUTE, Ind.-- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology won 12 events as the men's team finished first and the women's team finished second in the Engineer Invitational on Friday, 1/25. Before the event, Rose-Hulman's senior class of 15 athletes was honored prior to their final indoor meet.
The event featured seven different schools including the Engineers. Other teams competing at the meet included Bellarmine, Brescia, Kentucky Wesleyan, Millikin, Thomas More, and Wabash.
Rose-Hulman men's field event winners included Eric Fiacable in the shot put (48' 1.25") and the weight throw (57' 5.5"). Nick Palmer was able to win the pole vault as well (15' 5.75").
The Fightin' Engineers running event winners included Aaron Lannoy in the 800-meter run (1:58.78), Noah Thomas in the 60-meter dash (7.05) and the 200-meter dash (22.71), and Kevin Wuest in the 5000-meter run (15:47.29).
Women's field event winners included Lauren London in the long jump (17' 11.5") and Dara Smith in the high jump (5' 2.25").
Running event winners on the women's side included Lauren London in the 60-meter hurdles (9.38), Kally Morozin in the mile (5:26.6), and the 4-x-200 meter relay team of London, Mary-Helen Shomba, Tina Rogers, and Adekite Oladipupo (1:48.92).
Rose-Hulman combined for seven runner-up finishes on the evening. Men's field event runner ups included Nathan Schrader in the weight throw (47' 11.25") and in the shot put (47' 7.25"). Running event runner ups for the men's included Ben Gothard in the 5000-meter run (15:52.37), and Matthew Stevenot in the mile (4:24.22).
Women runner ups for the Engineers included Brooke Schroeder in the pole vault (9' 9"), Mary-Helen Shomba in the 60-meter hurdles (9.40), and the 4-x-400 meter relay team (4:18.92).
Two Rose-Hulman athletes were able to set new school records in their events tonight. Lauren London broke the record in the women's long jump with a mark of 17' 11.5" and Eric Fiacable was able to break his former record in the weight throw with a mark of 57' 5.5".
Rose-Hulman will compete next on Friday, 2/1 in the DePauw Small College Invitational. Events will begin at approximately 6:00 PM.
