NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology gave No. 1 seed Anderson University a tight battle before falling 5-2 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference women's tennis semifinal round on Saturday afternoon.
The Fightin' Engineers dropped all three doubles matches, but were highly competitive in the match. The No. 1 flight of Naomi Bhagat and Fanny-Jane Banda narrowly fell 8-7 in a tiebreak, Anna Thompson and Kyla Jarvis battled before falling 8-5 at No. 2, and Krista Manche and Emma Goodman dropped a tight 8-6 match at No. 3.
In singles play, Thompson earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the No. 2 flight. Banda won 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 3 position. Anderson clinched the match with wins at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions.
Anderson improved to 14-1 and advanced to Sunday's HCAC Tournament Championship Match. Rose-Hulman completes the fall season with an 8-5 record.
