ORLANDO, Fla. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology opened its Florida spring men's tennis trip by extending three singles matches into three sets against No. 24 ranked Bates before falling 8-1 on Sunday at the USTA Campus.
Ian Landwehr picked up a 6-0, 2-6, 6-2 win at the No. 1 singles position to provide the Engineer victory. Austin Perry at No. 3 singles and Joseph Conrad at No. 4 singles extended matches into the third set before falling in tight matchups.
Rose-Hulman was also competitive in doubles matches, battling the nationally ranked East Coast foe to 8-6 losses at the No. 1 and No. 2 flights.
Bates improved to 1-1 on the season while Rose-Hulman dropped to 0-3. The Fightin' Engineers return to action on Monday with a doubleheader against NCAA Division II institutions Davenport and nationally ranked Florida Tech.
