ST. LOUIS, MO-- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's tennis wraps up their 2019 season after a loss to Washington University in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Bears were able to win the match 6-0 to defeat the Engineers and advance to the third round.
Rose-Hulman fell behind after doubles competition 3-0. The No. 2 doubles team of Ian Landwehr and Austin Perry came from behind in a competitive match that resulted in a narrow defeat 8-5. In singles competition the Bears were able to pick up wins in No. 2, No. 5, and No. 6 singles to secure the win and defeat the Engineers 6-0 to advance to the sweet sixteen.
Head coach Dan Hopkins wraps up his final season with the Engineers after 31 years with the team. Hopkins has been a vital member of the athletic department and has had an outstanding career at Rose-Hulman. His efforts have led the Rose-Hulman men's and women's teams to a combined seven NCAA Division III tournament appearances and eight Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season championships since 2010. The winningest coach in Rose-Hulman tennis history finishes with a men's college tennis record of 313-277.
