NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's tennis fall season came to an end with a narrow 5-4 loss to Anderson University in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Semifinal Round on Saturday at Top Seed Tennis Club.
Rose-Hulman trailed 2-1 after doubles play before rallying to tie the match at 4-4.Â
Taylor Goldman and
Wynne Aldrich won at No. 1 doubles by an 8-3 count for the first team point.
In singles play, Goldman won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and Aldrich won 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 to bring Rose-Hulman within a narrow 4-3 margin.Â
Violet Keith added another singles victory by a 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 count to tie the match at 4-4.
Ella Dorfmueller split the first two sets 6-1, 3-6 and rallied from an early deficit to tie the third and deciding set at 4-4. Anderson secured the match win with a 6-4 victory in the deciding set.
Anderson improved to 8-3 on the season with the win, while Rose-Hulman stands 5-3 after the fall season. The Fightin' Engineers finished third in the conference regular season standings and advanced to the HCAC Tournament Semifinal Round after defeating Manchester 8-1 earlier this week.
