TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology improved to 2-0 on the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's tennis season with a 7-2 win over Hanover College at Brickway Tennis Club on Saturday.
The Fightin' Engineers won their 53rd HCAC match in their last 54 league contests by knocking off a Hanover team that was picked as the league favorite in the preseason conference coaches poll.
Rose-Hulman won five of six singles matches to turn a 2-1 doubles lead into a 7-2 victory.Â
Joshua Giambattista (No. 1),
Hart Howard (No. 2),
Grant Paradowski (No. 5) and
Rhian Seneviratne (No. 6) each won in straight sets, and
Owen Reynolds (No. 4) won in a third-set tiebreaker.
The Fightin' Engineers earned an 8-3 doubles win with
Mark Slaninka and
Grant Paradowski at the No. 2 flight, and also won with Seneviratne and Reynolds by an 8-7 score and a 7-2 tiebreaker at the No. 3 position.
Rose-Hulman returns to action at home against Transylvania University on Saturday April 16 at 11 am.
