TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's tennis team fell to IU-Kokomo in a non-conference matchup on Sunday with a 4-3 defeat.
The Fightin' Engineers took the lead early over the Cougars as they swept all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Addie Patterson and
Lia Taylor teamed up to win the first match at #1 doubles with a 6-4 win after coming from behind to win the final five games of the match.
At #3 doubles,
Kaitlyn Pfund and
Nova Gladden added another 6-4 win to clinch the doubles point with a big break of serve at 5-4 to clinch the match win. Then, at #2 doubles,
Camille Clark and
Julia Burt outlasted their opponents for a 7-6(8-6) win to complete the doubles sweep after fighting off three match points in the tiebreaker.
After the Cougars leveled the match at one in singles play,
Camille Clark picked up her second win of the day to put Rose-Hulman back in front with a 6-4, 6-2 win at #3 singles.
Nova Gladden also held on to win at #4 singles to put the Fightin' Engineers just one match win away from the victory with a 7-6(9-7), 6-2 win.
Lia Taylor had the best chance to clinch the win for the Fightin' Engineers at #1 singles after winning the opening set 6-3, but she was unable to close out the match and fell 6-3, 4-6, 1-6 as the Cougars picked up the 4-3 match victory.
With the loss, Rose-Hulman falls to 1-5 on the season with the loss to the Cougars. The team will return to action with a pair of matches on March 3 in Orlando, Florida as they take on Allegheny and Concordia (WI) on the opening day of their spring trip.
