MTEN-Headshot-Coach-Wilson-2024-25

Matt Wilson

Matt Wilson enters his fourth year at Rose-Hulman and his third year as the head coach of the men's and women's tennis teams in the 2025-26 academic year.

Wilson had an outstanding season in his first year leading the Fightin' Engineers in 2024. The men's team claimed the HCAC regular season title and HCAC Tournament title to advance to the NCAA Tournament for the 10th time in school history. Rose-Hulman fell short to Illinois Tech in the first round of the tournament with a final score of 5-3. The women's team finished the regular season in second place entering the HCAC Tournament. The team ended their season after a loss to Transylvania in the championship match with a final of 5-3.

In his first season, he led six student-athletes to all-HCAC 1st team honors and four to all-HCAC honorable mention with Elijah Hadler earning Newcomer of the Year.

His second season featured similar success for the men’s team as they claimed the HCAC regular season title and HCAC Tournament title for the second consecutive year. Rose-Hulman fell 4-2 in the first round of the NCAA tournament against Greenville while three players earned all-HCAC 1st team honors with another three earning all-HCAC honorable mention.

Wilson’s women's team underwent a complete rebuild in 2025 as most starters from 2024 were lost due to graduation. Bringing in the largest individual recruiting class in Rose-Hulman women’s tennis history, the 2025 team brought home a second place finish in the HCAC regular season standings while falling in the HCAC Tournament semi-finals. With the team being led by a lineup of nearly all freshman, Lia Taylor earned Newcomer of the Year while two student-athletes took home all-HCAC 1st team honors with another three being named all-HCAC honorable mention.

Before coming to Rose-Hulman, Wilson served as head boys tennis coach at Terre Haute North Vigo High School from 2020-2023.  He also served as assistant girls tennis coach at Terre Haute North from 2020 until starting at Rose-Hulman the spring of 2022.

An instructor and tournament director for both the Terre Haute Tennis and Pickleball Center and the Terre Haute Junior Tennis Association, Wilson served as a 7th grade English teacher in Vigo County until August 2023.

As a player, Wilson earned three varsity letters at Terre Haute North Vigo High School, where he earned all-district and all-state doubles honors for a State Finals team as a senior.  He served as club tennis founder and club tennis President at Indiana State, leading a team that traveled and competed against other Midwestern teams.

Wilson is a member of the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association; a USPTA Certified Tennis Instructor; USTA Safe Play Certified; and a THJTA Board Member. He has also served as the director of tennis at the Berkshire United Sports Camp in Sheffield, Massachusetts in the summer of 2025.

Wilson earned a bachelor's degree in English education from Indiana State in 2022. He resides in Terre Haute, Indiana with his wife Meredith.
