Defense has been a staple of the recent Rose-Hulman success. The Fightin' Engineers ranked in the national top 10 in fewest points allowed in 2017 and 2018, including a No. 3 overall national ranking in scoring defense in 2017. The success has included the two longest winning streaks in school history, 22 games in 2018 and 18 games in 2016.
Prevo has led the women's basketball squad to 12 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament appearances in his 15 seasons as head coach. He has led five teams to 20-win seasons (24 in 2018; 24 in 2017; 23 in 2016; 21 in 2007; 20 in 2019).
Prevo completed his 28th basketball season at Rose-Hulman last winter, after previously serving as the men's basketball assistant coach for 12 years. The Engineer men's team had a record of 184-128 in 12 seasons under the work of then-head coach Jim Shaw and Prevo.
Prevo became the fifth head women's basketball coach at Rose-Hulman. As associate athletic director for the past decade, Prevo serves as the athletic department compliance officer and chairman of the college's Athletic Hall of Fame Committee.
In 2006-07, Rose-Hulman achieved 19 total school records, highlighted by the most wins and best women's basketball conference finish in a season in school history. Individually, Rose-Hulman players earned a pair of all-region awards and two first-team all-conference honors.
The 2015-16 team set school records with 23 wins and an 18-game winning streak. The Fightin' Engineers won every game from Dec. 14 through Feb. 26 before narrowly falling at league co-champion Bluffton in the conference tournament title game. The squad scored the most points in a game in school history (104 vs. St. Mary-of-the-Woods) and also allowed the fewest points in a game in program history (17 vs. Illinois Tech).
The 2017 team won its first HCAC Tournament championship by defeating Transylvania 50-40 in the league title game. Rose-Hulman also won the outright conference title with a mark of 17-1 in league play. The season included a 14-game winning streak, a narrow 57-54 in the NCAA Tournament and the nation's No. 3 ranked scoring defense.
The 2018 team earned a national ranking for the first time in program history, reaching No. 20 in the D3hoops.com poll and No. 23 in the Women's Basketball Coaches Assocation poll, as part of the school record 22-game winning streak. In 2019, the success continued with a fifth-straight 20-win season and a trip to the HCAC Tournament Championship Game.
Prevo, a member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, came to Rose-Hulman with Shaw after serving as an assistant men's basketball coach at Indiana State University during the 1993-94 season. He previously served as assistant basketball coach at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y., from 1991-93 and was an assistant at the University of Evansville from 1989-91.
Prior to his college experience, Prevo served as the head basketball and track coach at Cisne (Ill.) High School from 1987-89, earning league basketball Coach of the Year honors in 1987 and 1988.
Prevo earned a bachelor's degree in physical education from Indiana State in 1986 and completed coursework towards a master's degree in counseling at the University of Evansville in 1990.
