Faber Home Run Record Leads Softball Split with Hanover

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior Allison Faber (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) set single-season and career softball home run records to lead Saturday's split with Hanover.

Faber also tied a single-game school record with two home runs to lead the Engineers past Hanover 8-0 in the doubleheader opener.  Her single-season home run total reached six with a career total of eight to rewrite the Fightin' Engineer history book in both categories.

Hanover rebounded to capture the nightcap by a 10-5 margin.

Faber finished game one at 3-3 with two home runs, three runs scored and three RBIs.  Freshman Jenna Martinek (Troy, Mo./Buchanan) also contributed three singles and scored one run in the effort, and freshman Allison Bowman (Fort Wayne/Snider) added two singles, one run and one RBI.

Senior Kyla Lutz (Tennyson/Boonville) picked up the pitching shutout with a complete-game three-hitter.  Lutz allowed three singles and two walks with two strikeouts to improve to 6-7 on the season.

In the nightcap, Hanover scored twice in the fifth inning and five times in the sixth to turn a 3-3 tie into a 10-5 victory.  Lauren Kreinest and Shelby Overton led the Panthers with home runs and three RBIs each.

Lutz and sophomore Brianne Widmoyer (Elkhart/Central) led Rose-Hulman's game two offense with three hits each.  Lutz had one RBI, while Widmoyer recorded one run and one RBI.

Senior Kayla Yano (Ontario, Ore.) also contributed two hits, including a double, with two runs scored in the nightcap.

Rose-Hulman stands 13-19 on the season and 6-8 in conference play, while Hanover improved to 6-18 and 2-8 in league games.  The Engineers host Defiance on Saturday at 1 p.m. for Senior Day, and could have a schedule addition with a home matchup against Millikin later this week.
