Women's Soccer Falls to Transy in Overtime, 1-0

LEXINGTON, KY. – Despite a valiant effort by the Engineers' defense, the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's soccer team dropped its first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match of the season in Saturday's 1-0 overtime loss to Transylvania University.

Rose-Hulman (8-3-4, 4-1 HCAC) battled the Pioneers to a scoreless tie until Transylvania's Michelle Schroeck struck for an unassisted goal in the 99th minute, her first of the season.

Transylvania (9-3-2, 3-1-1 HCAC) outshot the Engineers by a tally of 21-7, but RHIT sophomore keeper Lucinda Combs (Danville, Ky./Boyle County) kept her squad in the match by recording a game-high 13 saves.

Rose-Hulman did hold a slight advantage on corner kicks, 5-3. Senior Nicky Wheeler (Avon, Ind./Avon) accounted for six of the Engineers seven shots to lead RHIT.

The Engineers now find themselves in a two-way tie for second place with Manchester in the HCAC standings, as Hanover takes over the top spot after Saturday's 4-0 win against Bluffton.

RHIT returns to play Tuesday, when it hosts Franklin College for a 7 p.m. matchup at the Intramural Field.
