TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's soccer team played the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference's leader to a scoreless tie for the entire regulation before falling, 1-0, to Hanover College early in the first overtime Saturday.
Hanover's Rachel Alvis' shot to the upper right corner ended the draw in 92nd minute and gave the Panthers (13-1-2, 6-0-1) the victory to keep them in first place in the HCAC.
Rose-Hulman dropped to 9-4-4, 5-2 HCAC with the setback.
Sophomore keeper Lucinda Combs (Danville, Ky./Boyle County) recorded a match-high 12 saves in the match, where the Engineers were outshot by a total of 17-3.
Mackenzie Christensen (Racine, Wisc./New Glarus), Nicky Wheeler (Avon, Ind./Avon) and Kate DeMoss (Martinsville, Ind./Roncalli) all tallied shots for the Engineers.
After Saturday's match, there are two regular contests remaining for the Engineers, who now stand in fourth place in the conference. Rose-Hulman returns to the field Tuesday (Oct. 29) when it travels to Earlham. The Engineers host Manchester Nov. 2 in the regular-season finale.
The top four teams in the conference advance to the HCAC Tournament, set to begin Nov. 6.
