Game Recap: Men's Swimming and Diving |

Men's Swimming Narrowly Falls to Wabash

CRAWFORDSVILLE, IND. -- Wabash College overcame a strong performance from the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's swimming and diving team to earn a narrow 148.5-145.5 victory in a dual meet on Friday night.

Rose-Hulman won eight of the 16 events on the evening.  Sophomore Orion Martin (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) captured the 50-freestyle (21.68) and the 100-yard butterfly (50.16) to lead the swimming effort.  Sophomore Sam Gould (Greencastle/South Putnam) led the diving performance with wins in the one-meter (270.40 points) and three-meter (287.05) events. 

Gould also qualified for the NCAA Division III Diving Regional this spring after his second Provisional mark of the season.

Individual winners also included freshman Pierce Bartine (Katy, Texas/Seven Lakes) in the 200-butterfly (1:59.07) and sophomore Matthew King (Libertyville, Ill.) in the 1,000-freestyle (10:06.33).

Rose-Hulman also swept top honors in the 200-medley and 400-freestyle relay events.  The 200-medley team of freshman Nate Weber (Kalamazoo, Mich./Portage Central), senior Andrew Podgorski (Goshen), Martin and sophomore Paul Hintz (Pickerington, Ohio) won in a time of 1:36.68.

The 400-freestyle relay team of Martin, Podgorski, Hintz and freshman Matt Schulstad (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) added the final win of the night in a time of 3:13.25.

The meet began a busy week for Rose-Hulman, who returns to action on Saturday afternoon.  The Fightin' Engineer men and women host Illinois Wesleyan University at 1 p.m. at the Sports and Recreation Center.
