Swimming & Diving Earns 15 Wins, Sets Three School Records

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology captured 15 event victories and set three school records to highlight a dual meet against Illinois Wesleyan University at the Sports and Recreation Center on Saturday.

The Fightin' Engineers broke two women's and one men's school record with Saturday's performance.  Freshman Ellie Hong (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) set a new 200-backstroke mark of 2:06.38 that currently ranks as the top NCAA Division III time in the nation this season.  Sophomore Regen Foote (Jasper, Ind.) set a one-meter diving school record with 249.15 points.  Sophomore Orion Martin (Dublin, Ohio) added the men's 200-freestyle school record with a winning time of 1:43.83.

The men's squad won a total of eight events on the day.  Martin was a double winner, adding a title in the 100-freestyle (47.83).  Sophomore Sam Gould (Greencastle/South Putnam) swept the one-meter (265.15) and three-meter (260.60) events to provide depth.

Other individual winners included freshman Pierce Bartine (Katy, Texas/Seven Lakes) in the 100-breaststroke (1:03.45); senior Andrew Podgorski (Goshen, Ind.) in the 50-freestyle (22.25) and freshman Alexander Yaung (Fremont, Calif./American) in the 200-individual medley (2:01.82).  The 200-freestyle relay team of Bartine, Martin, Podgorski and sophomore Paul Hintz (Pickerington, Ohio) also won in a time of 1:29.07.

The women's squad combined for seven victories.  Hong also won the 50-freestyle in 24.94 seconds, and Foote added a three-meter victory with a diving score of 236.75.  Freshman Savannah Rice (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota West) also won the 200-breaststroke in a time of 2:38.70.

The 200-freestyle and 200-medley teams also captured top honors with the same four swimmers.  The team included Hong, Rice, junior Celeste Kline (Terre Haute/North) and freshman Lauren McLennan (Maineville, Ohio/Kings).  The 200-freestyle time was 1:45.39, with the 200-medley completing the event in 1:56.68.

Rose-Hulman returns to action on Nov. 16 with its Senior Day home matchup against Franklin.
