Wheeler Leads Second Half Women's Soccer Rally

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Behind two back-to-back goals from senior Nicky Wheeler, the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's soccer team came from behind to top visiting Millikin University Saturday at the Intramural Field.

With Millikin (3-2) holding a 1-0 lead, Wheeler (Avon, Ind./Avon) netted her first goal in the 76th minute, holding the ball to the right of the 18-foot box before firing a shot that went in just past the right post to tie the contest.  Sophomore Hayley Gilliam (Zionsville) provided the assist.

Two minutes later, Wheeler struck again when she corralled an errant Millikin pass just outside the box, beating Big Blue keeper Kayla Lojas to the ball for an easy chip shot just under the crossbar.  Junior Haley O'Neil (Batavia, Ill.) earned the assist on the score.

The Rose-Hulman (3-1-1, 0-0 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference) defense, led by sophomore keeper Lucinda Combs (Danville, Ky./Boyle County) held strong for the remaining 12 minutes, as Combs picked up the win to go along with one save in the contest.

Millikin opened the match scoring in the 70th minute, as Jenna Eaker got the ball in the middle just outside the goal from teammate Sarah Christy. Eaker created space to fire a shot that beat Combs to upper right corner to put the Big Blue on the board.

Rose-Hulman didn't fold, as the Fightin' Engineers outshot Millikin 17-6 for the game, with four coming on goal. Rose-Hulman also held the advantage on corner kicks, 11-3.

Lojas recorded four saves in the loss for Millikin.

The Fightin' Engineers return to the field Tuesday, when they travel to Fontbonne for an 8 p.m. (CT) nonconference matchup.
