Game Recap: Men's Swimming and Diving |

Swimming & Diving Teams Win 10 Events at DePauw

GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men and women's swimming and diving teams captured a combined 10 events at the DePauw University Tri-Meet Saturday.

The 18th-ranked Rose-Hulman men's squad finished second and the women's team placed third in the three-team meet, which also featured DePauw and Illinois Wesleyan.

Sophomore Orion Martin (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) and freshman Pierce Bartine (Katy, Texas/Seven Lakes) each won two events and sophomore Sam Gould (Greencastle, Ind./South Putnam) snagged swept the men's 1-meter and 3-meter diving events to lead the RHIT men.

Martin won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:42.05 and placed first in the 100 butterfly (50.55 seconds). He also took third place in the 100 freestyle with a mark of 47.43 seconds.

Bartine took first in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:59.54 and won the 200 butterfly, clocking in at a season-best time of 1:57.05.

Gould scored 280.50 points to take the 1-meter diving title and sophomore teammate Josh Maurer (Kokomo, Ind./Western) placed second in the event with a mark of 203.05. Gould scored 304.45 points to take the 3-meter event, which set a new school record and pool record. Maurer was second with 225.95 points.

Other first-place finishes for the Rose-Hulman men's squad were sophomore Matt King (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) in the 1,000 freestyle (10:15.28) and Tai Enrico (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East) in the 200 backstroke (1:59.81), which set a season best.

Second-place finishes included Alexander Yaung (Fremont, Calif./American) in the 200 backstroke (2:00.28) and Matt Schulstad (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) in the 100 butterfly (54.16).

Sophomore Regen Foote (Jasper, Ind./Jasper) led the Engineer women by sweeping the diving events, winning the 1-meter event with 209.20 points and the 3-meter event with 257.50 points, which set a new school record. 

Freshman Ellie Hong (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) snagged one second-place and two third-place finishes, finishing runner-up in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:20.13. She was third in both the 50 freestyle (25.04) and the 500 freestyle (5:30.93).

Freshman Savannah Rice (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota West) rounded out the women's best performances with her second-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.17).

The Rose-Hulman men's and women's swimming and diving teams hit the pool again when the Engineers travel to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Meet at Franklin College Jan. 25.
