FRANKLIN, Ind. - A first half goal from freshman Austin Webb propelled the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory at Franklin College Wednesday, Oct. 15.
Webb scored the game's only goal in the 16th minute off of a corner kick from junior Dieter Schultz. In addition, Webb fired a game-high five shots for the Fightin' Engineers while freshman Turner Perkins fired four.
Rose-Hulman held a 16-12 advantage in shots including a 11-6 edge through one half of play. Seven of the Engineers' shots were on net compared to five for Franklin. Rose-Hulman also earned nine corner kicks while the Grizzlies took two.
Senior goalkeeper Drew Miller earned his eighth shutout of the season along with a program-high 30th shutout of his career.
With its win, Rose-Hulman improves to 8-3-3 overall and 3-0-1 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play. The Engineers now have a one-game lead on Transylvania, Franklin, and Defiance halfway through conference play. Rose-Hulman owns head-to-head tiebreakers with both Franklin and Defiance.
The Engineers return to action Saturday, Oct. 18 for a 3 p.m. game at Manchester.
