COMPLETE RESULTS
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology recorded 14 first-place finishes and three school records in a strong performance against NCAA Division I Valparaiso University on Friday night at the Sports and Recreation Center Natatorium.
The Fightin' Engineers captured a 158-78 victory in the men's team scoring, while the women dropped a competitive 117-86 decision to the Crusaders.
Rose-Hulman relied on a record setting diving performance to capture four first-place finishes. Junior Regen Foote set two school records, snapping her own six-dive marks in one-meter (266.40 points) and three-meter (264.82). Both marks are also NCAA Division III Regional qualifying scores.
Junior Sam Gould also set a new school record in three-meter diving with a six-dive score of 317.70 points to register another NCAA Division III Regional qualifying mark. Gould added another NCAA qualifying score to win the one-meter diving competition (285.22 points).
The men's squad won seven of the 11 swimming events to secure the victory. Junior Matthew King won the 500-freestyle (4:56.39) and completed a distance sweep by capturing the 1,650-freestyle (16:50.12). Junior Orion Martin added victories in the 100-butterfly (50.68) and the 200-freestyle (1:43.83).
Other men's individual winners included freshman Kirk Dickson in the 100-backstroke (54.76) and freshman Ben Stone in the 400-individual medley (4:18.35).
The 400-freestyle relay team of Martin, Dickson, junior Paul Hintz and freshman Cam Gill rounded out the meet with a winning time of 3:13.95.
On the women's side, sophomore Ellie Hong led the way with two event victories. Hong won the 100-backstroke in 1:00.10 and claimed the 200-freestyle with a time of 2:00.55. Freshman Bethany Lefeber added a victory in the 400-individual medley (5:06.05).
Rose-Hulman returns to action at the Transylvania University Invitational on Dec. 6-7 at the University of Kentucky.
